Black Isle Rural Community Hub
About Us
Raddery House Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation with charitable purposes, created as a community asset transfer (CAT) body, by people of the Black Isle.
Heading 1
Vision
We have an exciting vision of a vibrant fully inclusive hub, which will offer diverse
opportunities, address important unmet needs and greatly enrich the lives of many on the Black Isle.
Consultation
We consulted widely with the Black Isle community and stakeholders both on line
and face to face. We held workshops and open day events keen to hear what development the community would like
and what ideas they had.
We recorded nearly one thousand contacts. There was a very clear desire to
do `something good` in line with the
original bequest of the property to Ross
and Cromarty and to develop it to address the unmet need in the community.
A dedicated meeting place for individuals journeying with dementia, carers, young people and wellbeing activities for all, were
top of the wish list
A Very Special Place
Raddery is a very special place offering a rare opportunity not simply to address
unmet need but to provide solutions which far exceed usual expectations.
A place to colour the lives of many now, and to establish a legacy for future generations.
This diverse site ranges from ancient woodland to a modern sports hall and supports a wealth of possibilities for a multitude of activities and worthwhile purposes.
It is this excellence of resource which is the `glue` binding the many and various uses and users together.
Dementia
Carers
A centre of excellence for people living with Dementia, based on the very successful, evidence based Kirriemuir model. An enlightened activities based `meeting place` for people with mild to moderate Dementia.
Staffed by activities coordinators specifically trained in Dementia, the centre would be open five days a week from 10am -3pm. Typically fifteen individuals would be hosted at any one time and would usually attend three days a week.
There are over 260 individuals living with diagnosed dementia on the Black Isle and no dedicated facilities for them to enjoy.
A place for carers of all ages and responsibilities to meet together or individually enjoy the facilities. A respite opportunity, a place to recharge batteries. Currently there are164 adult carers on the Black Isle registered with `Connecting Carers`
A dedicated `home` for the estimated 70 Young Carers on the Black Isle and a place for a variety of groups of young people to meet, enjoy and even camp.
Wellbeing
Recognised as key to physical and mental health, wellbeing will be at the core of every activity. Whether formal organised classes and groups or as casual individual users.
Having indoor and outdoor facilities and space, supports possibilities limited only by imagination
Mindfulness, the `Green Gym`, creative fulfilment, growing space and woodland activities, forest bathing, café time or Tai Chi in the yurt, are just a few possibilities.
We would seek to offer our activities for NHS social prescribing for good mental and physical health
Respite
Respite comes in all shapes and sizes, from an unloading chat with friends over coffee, through to a fully supported residential holiday. Respite for individuals and respite for families, a place to have fun and make memories. We hope that carers and families will find their respite needs catered for at Raddery.
A change of scene or activities in a safe, inclusive and accessible environment. We plan to make our version of `The Yard` , have a sensory garden, accessible trails, adapted play areas and develop facilities and activities hand in hand with the users.
Adapted Holiday Units
Adapted and Accessible Holiday Units
We are excited to plan a range of self catering holiday units at Raddery.
It is extremely difficult to find truly accessible holiday accommodation where individuals and families can benefit from a break away from the daily routine and `sameness` of living with chronic illness or disability, yet it is these families who would benefit the most from a change of scene somewhere safe and specially designed for them.
For many the difficulty of leaving their homes means that their `world` can get smaller and smaller and this not only adversely impacts on their wellbeing but also on the wellbeing of their carers and family life.
We plan to provide basic units which are adapted for wheelchair users and those with decreased mobility and also units which are fully track hoisted open plan units, suitable for those requiring a high level of support.
We have been guided by CHAS and ARCHIES regarding the need and requirements for these units. CHAS has agreed to the continued care from their staff whilst the child and their family visit Raddery for a holiday.
A chance for family time, fun for the siblings and opportunities to make special memories.
Woodland
The beechwood at Raddery is a well-loved, tranquil space where nature thrives. It's the perfect base for low-impact outdoor activities that nurture well-being, from peaceful walks to immersive nature experiences. We're excited to share that we are developing a low-key plan to manage this cherished woodland with the assistance of the Woodland Trust, Scotland.
Our goal is to return the area to its native state by gradually removing alien species and creating a tree nursery at the main site to grow trees and shrubs to replace the holes in the canopy and to create natural boundaries around the wood, ensuring it remains a haven for nature for generations to come.
